Imagine playing the cello with confidence, musicality, and joy.
Whether you're just starting out or refining your skills, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.
Hi, I’m Tamra Baca!
At Baca Cello Studio, I teach cello both online and in person to students ages 7 through adult, from beginners to advanced players. With a strong background in classical music and extensive chamber music experience, I focus on building solid technique, ensemble playing, confident performance, and effective practice habits.
I’m passionate about sharing my love for music and guiding students to success. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing my students light up when everything clicks! I strive to create a nurturing environment in the Baca Cello Studio where every student can thrive.
I tailor each lesson to meet the unique needs and goals of my students, ensuring that they progress at their own pace while challenging themselves. Whether you’re learning for fun or aiming for a professional career, my goal is to help you grow as a musician, build lasting skills, and develop a deep appreciation for the cello.

A Passion for Cello, Backed by Experience

With a Bachelor’s in Music from Utah State University and a Master’s in Music from the University of Utah, I’ve dedicated 19 years to teaching and even longer to performing. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of studying under renowned musicians and educators, which has greatly influenced my teaching style and deepened my love for music. I’ve completed Suzuki teacher training for all 10 books, as well as supplemental literature training, and hold a Suzuki Certificate of Achievement. This comprehensive training allows me to teach students of all levels at Baca Cello Studio with confidence, incorporating a variety of approaches tailored to each individual’s learning style and goals.
In addition to my formal education, my extensive performance experience in both solo and ensemble settings has helped me develop a deep understanding of the technical and musical demands of the cello. My goal is always to inspire students to build a strong foundation while nurturing their passion for music.
Beyond teaching, I perform regularly with Sky Island Quartet, Black & White String Quartet, and Chrome Street Quartet. Whether in the studio or on stage, I bring passion and experience to every note!
Building Strong, Confident, and Musical Cellists
My lessons offer a comprehensive and engaging approach to learning the cello. We focus on technique, music theory, note reading, ear training, and performance skills, all while developing musical expression and artistry. I also incorporate music history to provide context and broaden musical literacy, helping students connect more deeply with the pieces they play. Each lesson is designed to build a strong foundation while keeping learning fun, inspiring, and rewarding. At Baca Cello Studio, I strive to create an environment that fosters creativity and personal growth. My students not only improve their technical skills but also gain confidence in their ability to perform and communicate through music. I encourage an open dialogue in each lesson, allowing students to ask questions, explore different interpretations, and take ownership of their musical journey. Whether you’re preparing for a performance, developing new skills, or simply enjoying music, Baca Cello Studio is here to support and guide you every step of the way.

As a Suzuki Violin student, teacher, and parent, I feel I have a pretty good handle on what makes a good music teacher. Tamra is top notch. My daughter wanted to switch from violin to cello after 3 years, but we were living in small-town Idaho where our options for teachers were slim. Tamra started lessons with my daughter, mostly online, with occasional in-person lessons whenever we were in Utah visiting family. She was able to help my daughter transition so well, and really connected with her in a way that kept her enjoying music through the tough changes she had to make. She really handled my daughter's ADHD meltdowns well, and communicated well with me every step of the way. I'm so grateful we had Tamra. She is well-educated and practiced in music and pedagogy. Top notch! Adam Overacker2025-04-25Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Tamra is a superb cellist and a really wonderful teacher. Any student would be lucky to be a part of her studio. Vivian Mathias2025-04-23Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We are going on 8 years having Tamra as our teacher. I cannot stress enough how much she really cares about her students. She makes sure they understand the skills they are learning whether you're 6 or 60 years old. She's very punctual and reliable, consistent, and she is always rooting for you to succeed. She does an outstanding job explaining materials at a level you will understand. She is also very professional and qualified in her craft. She has all the credentials you look for in a cello teacher and she is certified in the Suzuki Method as well. The overall experience makes all the investment worth it! I highly recommend Tamra! Baca Cello Studio is such a profesional and judgement free atmosphere to learn and improve your cello skills. Coming in as a late bloomer who didn’t take private lessons until my adult years, she was the best experience I’ve had for a private teacher Elizabeth K2025-04-22Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Tamra is an amazing cello instructor! My son has been with her for almost 4 years and has consistently made great progress, because of her experience and wide reaching teaching abilities. She has a variety of solutions that she tailors to her students with each new challenge they face. Not only that, but she is actively practicing in her field, which adds so much to her studio. Her love for the cello is very apparent. I appreciate her dedication to her craft! Aimee Birdsall2025-04-22Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My daughter started lessons at Baca Cello Studio when she was 13, and the improvement we've seen has been incredible. Before coming here, she had a year of lessons with a violinist who said she could teach cello, but the difference since starting with Tamra has been like night and day — it's honestly like a 100% improvement. Tamra is not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also patient, kind, and just wonderful with kids. She takes the time to work with my daughter on her school music as well as her assigned pieces, and always does so with such a positive attitude. She's consistently cheerful, encouraging, and creates such a welcoming environment. We're so grateful for her and feel lucky to have found Baca Cello Studio!
